Day Ten, Let's Drink Some Ink and Eat Some Ink Stones and See the Butterfly Lovers

So our day began with going to the ink stone factory. This is the most famous ink stone factory in all of China, like the Chanel or Louis Vitton of ink stone. This stone edge sits on wall to protect those who live inside, within the wall. It has a tiger face on it with the Chinese character King, because the tiger is the king of the animal kingdom in the Chinese culture. A worker polishing the ink stones

Later that day, we travelled over to Hangzhou, where we saw a show about that history of the city, the story of Green Snake, and the Butterfly Lovers (Chinese Romeo and Juliet).

We learned so much that day, about rural China and its history. We saw the production of ink stones and sticks, its daily lives of Chinese people who aren't living in the city, and gained a sense of the Chinese experience (culture). Tomorrow, we continue our adventure in Hangzhou to see the temples and Shanghai!
